Installation Instructions
for the upgrade:
Summary: The file you download is a zip file. When decompressed
it will create new versions of the files rockbase.exe and rockbase.hlp which
should be placed in your rockbase directory
replacing the existing files of the same names. If for any reason you wish to
return to your original version of the program it can be copied from the CD-ROM
into the rockbase directory.
How to install the upgrade on a Windows 95 PC: Open
Windows Explorer by clicking on the Start Button then choosing
"Programs"
then "Windows Explorer" - find the directory / disk
containing the upgrade file in the left hand window of explorer - if you
received the upgrade on a diskette then you will probably select the 3.5
Floppy (A:) drive, alternatively if you download the upgrade
direct
to your computer via a modem you will need to find the directory
used by your web access program for downloads (e.g.
c:\cserve\downloads)
- click on the folder icon beside the folder name. This will
display
a list of the files in the folder within the right hand
window.
Locate the file called "rb2nn.zip" (where nn is the
latest version number e.g. rb215.zip) within the right hand window
(scrolling down the list if necessary). Click once, with the right hand mouse
button, on the file icon with this name. Choose the copy option from the list
which is displayed.
Now find the rockbase folder in the left hand window and click once with the
right hand mouse button on the word "rockbase". Choose the Paste
option from the list displayed.
The file rb2nn.zip should now appear in the right hand window within
the rockbase directory.
Start the upgrade procedure by clicking with the right mouse button on the
rb2nn.zip file icon and choose "Open".
The program will extract all the files you need into the rockbase directory,
(Enter "Y" when prompted with "Warning file already
exists") On completion, close the window by clicking with the mouse on the
X in the top right of the window.
When upgrading any software it is sensible to back up your data - to do this
with RockBase make a copy of the file "rockmain.mdb" which is in the
directory \rockbase\data\full -
the procedure is to expand the rockbase directory by clicking with the left
mouse button on the small "+" sign beside the rockbase folder in the
left hand window.
Then click with the left mouse button on the folder "full" under the
\rockbase\data folder, in the right hand window click with the right mouse
button on the file icon for "rockmain.mdb" choose the copy option -
now click with the right mouse button on the "full" folder icon in
theleft hand window and choose the paste option.
This will create a file called "copy of rockmain.mdb
Close Windows Explorer by clicking with the mouse on the X in the top right of
the window -
You can now run the latest version of RockBase Plus! (Enjoy it) -
Note that the first time you run the program after upgrading, it will take
slightly longer to start -
this is because some of the file structures have changed and the program
automatically updates these.
How to install the upgrade on a Windows 3.1x PC: Open File Manager by
clicking on the File Manager icon (normally in the group "Main"
- Select the disk drive containing the upgrade file by clicking on the
appropriate disk letter at the top of the File Manager window
(if you received the upgrade on a diskette then you will probably select the
A: drive),
then find the directory containing the upgrade file in the left hand window of
File Manager - if you download the upgrade direct to your computer via a modem
you will need to find the directory used by your web access program for
downloads (e.g. c:\cserve\downloads) - click on the folder icon beside the
folder name.
This will display a list of the files in the folder within the right hand
window.
Locate the file called "rb2nn.zip" (where
nn is
the latest version number e.g. rb212.zip) within the right
hand
window (scrolling down the list if necessary). Click once, with
the left hand mouse button, on the file icon with this name.
Press
F8 to start the copy procedure. In the field labeled
"To"
type the full path of your rockbase program files e.g.
"C:\ROCKBASE"
then press the OK button with the left mouse button.
Find the rockbase directory in the left hand window of File Manager and click
once on the icon with the left mouse button.
The file rb2nn.zip should now appear in the right hand window within
the rockbase directory.
Start the upgrade procedure by double clicking with the left mouse button on
the rb2nn.zip file icon.
The screen may go blank for a short period whilst the rockbase files are
created. The program will extract all the files you need into the rockbase
directory, (Enter "Y" when prompted with "Warning file already
exists")
When upgrading any software it is sensible to back up your data - to do this
with RockBase make a copy of the file "rockmain.mdb" which is in the
directory \rockbase\data\full -
Select the file rockmain.mdb in the right hand window of File Manager then
press F8 to start the copy procedure, type in a destination directory for the
backup copy -
suggested destinations are "A:\" if your rockmain.mdb will fit on a
diskette (you will need a blank / formatted floppy disk in drive A:) or perhaps
"C:\windows\temp" or wherever your temp directory is located.
Make a note of the location of the backup
in case you ever have problems.
Close File Manager by clicking with the mouse on the file drop down menu
and choosing exit.
You can now run the latest version of RockBase Plus! (Enjoy it) -
